The study on social support and depressive symptoms among elderly military veterans in Thaibinh, Vietnam showed that: the proportion of elderly military veterans suffering from depressive symptoms was about 40.9 percent. The most popular sources of perceived social support among them were from family and from friends. All three sources of social support were statistical asociated with depressive symptoms (p0.01). In addition, some socio-demographic factors and history of being wound in war, ability to do daily activities, ability to do the instrumental activities also had association with depressive symptoms (p0.01).
