Kuwanon S is a geranylated flavonoid isolated from the leaves of Morus alba. Its structure was determined by spectroscopic methods including ESI-MS and 1 D-NMR. By a reporter gene assay tested in TNF-a stimulated HeLa cells, kuwanon S showed strong NF-kB inhibitory activity with the IC50 value of 0.41 11M. The MTT assay showed that the compound had no significant toxicity at its effective doses for the NF-kB inhibition. The present paper is the first report on the NF-kB activity of kuwanon S.
