Objective: the evaluation initial results of the modified sugiura procedure. Material and method: From 1/2011 to 12/2011 at Hue central hospital, the authors have performed 10 cases by modified sugiura: splenectomy with esophagogastric devascularization, proximal gastrectomy and total vagotomy, pyloroplasty in treatment variceal bleeding of portal hypertension. Results: There were 8 males and 2 females with the mean age of 38 + or - 5. Have 6 cases in Child B and 4 cases in Child A. There were no operative deaths and no recurrent variceal bleeding. Conclusion: the modified sugiura is safe and effective in controlling esophageal varices, initial result is good.
