Objectives: Evaluate results of volar plate fixation for fracture of the distal end of radius type .B3(AO). Material and method: A perspective study was perfomed on 39 volar marginal intra-articular fractures of the distal end of the radius that were treated operatively at the Hospital of Trauma and Orthopedics of HCM city from 12/2009 to 3/2011. Results: The average ulnar angulation was 18.40 (5-260), the average volar angulation was 6.50 (-10 - 190), and the ulnar variance was -0.8 mm (-3- 0 mm). In 32 patients, the articular reronstruct:ion was considered to be anatomical. Of the remaining 7 patients, there is only 1 mm step-off. According to the modified system of Green and O'Brien, there were 95 percent excellent and good results. Two patients had rupture of the pollids longus tendon, one patient had both malunion of the distal radius and carpal tunnel syndrome. Conclusion: Operative treatment of the fracture type B3(AO) using plate fixation achieves good anatomical results, allows the patients to recover early the wrist movement and results in good functions.
