Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of using the linear cutter stapler in subtotal gastrectomy of patients with 1/3 lower gastric cancer. Materials and methods: 65 patients diagnosed 1/3 lower gastric cancer had radical surgery in the Nation Cancer Hospital from March 1st 2011 to September 30th 2011, divided into groups with two different methods: using the linear cutter stapler (34 patients in the prospective study group) and no using it (31 patients in the retrospective study group) in stomach operation. Results: The average number of lymph node dissection and their metastasis in each patient is 17,98 + or - 5,87 (8-13) and 2,03 respectively, including N2: 21,5 percent, N3a: 9,2 percent. The group using the linear cutter stapler has a shorter total operation time than the other group (104,26 + or - 11,88 minutes compared with 153,87 + or - 16,21 minutes). Time for closuring the duodenal stump and implementing the gastrointestinal anastomosis of this group are also reduced (1,10 + or - 0,74 min compared with 5,42 + or - 1,53 min
