Cassava is considered as an important crop in livelihoods of upland and minority groups in Tuyen Quang province. Under the support of the Participatory Research for Development in the Uplands (PRDU) project, a research project managed by International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), a trial on some new Cassava varieties was conducted at Hung Duc commune (Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province) in the year of 2006. The trial consists of 5 new varieties: KM94, KM98-7, CM9952-24, GM155-17, and La tre as the local check or control of the trial. The trial was designed by random block with 3 replicates
plot size is 25 m2 and density 10,000 plants per ha with plant to plant is 1 m x 1 m. The trial result showed that: all new Cassava varieties seem to have good development under local condition. Fresh root yield of varieties varies 31.7 to 40.6 tons per ha, dry root yield is from 11.52 to 15.96 tons/ha, dry matter rate varies 36.33 to 39.68 percent, starch yield varies 7.68 to 11.04 tons per ha. Among all 5 treatments, the yield of all new varieties is higher than the local check of La tre
Of which, KM98-7 is highest in both yield and economy with net income is higher than local check with the value of 5.77 million VND per ha, therefore this new variety should be disseminated to production in the areas.
