Waste water from coal mines typically have low pH, high acidity and contain dissolved metals with high concentrations exeeding the permitted standards. If not being treated, this kind of waste water will pollute the environment, especially surface water and ground water of the region, affecting people's live. Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group (VINACOMIN) are actively building the waste water treatment systems so that by 2014 all waster water from coal mines will be treated. Waste water treatment technologies in developed countries can be applied to Quang Ninh region. However, it should be based on quality and characteristics of water to calculate the appropriate technology choices for each areas and mines.
