It is well documented that vocabulmy is essential in foreign language learning and especially in communication. In fact, inability to memorize words, misuse, mispronunciation and failure to retrieve and use them in certain communicative situations are common problems among Vietnamese learners of English. This study analyzes and present major findings about learners' attitudes, difficulties and techniques of learning vocabulary and teachers' attitudes and techniques of teaching vocabulary. Based on the theoretical background of vocabulary, learning and teaching vocabulary and the communicative approach and practical basis. the study presents several practical and feasible techniques of engaging learners to enrich and use their vocabulary effectively for communicative purposes.
