Objective: To investigate the situation and assess the effectiveness of antibiotic use among inpatients at the National Hospital of Dennatologyand Venereology (NHDV), 2011. Methods: retrospective study, based on cross-sectional descriptive data of patients hospitalized at the NHDV from January to December 2011. Results: for this study, 180 medical records of inpatients, the rate of antibiotic use accounted for 92.78 percent, of which most of antibiotics used are on the list of essential drugs of regulations of the Ministry of Health. Antibiotics commonly used are beta-Iactamin group accounted for 61.68percent, of which cephalosporin subgroups accounted for 50.30 percent. Concerning combination of antibiotics, mainly cephalosporin injection combined with topical medications accounted for 64.28 percent and with macrolide intake accounted for 35.72 percent. Most of the combination of antibiotics in this study have synergistic effects, none of them cause incompatibility interactions. 14.97 percent patients were cured, and 80.83 percent improved the severity of the diseases. Conclusion: Antibiotics were highly used among inpatients. The use of antibiotics correctly followed the drug list regulated. The combination of antibiotics in this study was rational and promoted synergistic effects, none of them cause incompatibility interactions. The cure rate was low implies the effect of antibiotic use is not so high.
