Objectives: To detennine TMJ status (Temporomandibular joint) of medical students of Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and estimate the association between occlusion and temporomandibular joint status. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 154 students stratified random sampling method. Students were clinical examination to detect the signs of TMDs, malocclusion and interviewed with a questionaire concerning risk factors. Results: Prevalence of TMDs was high (83,8 percent). Of which, 100 percent had TMJ sound, 3,8 percent had pain in TMJ or masticatory muscle. Chewing habit on one side parafuntion, clenching their teeth were significantly associated with TMDs (p0,05). The association between the status of malocclusion and TMJ status was not found. Conclusions: TMDs prevalence was high and there was no association between malocclusion and TMJ status in this group.
