Vitamin D insufficiency is adversely associated with health outcome: osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus, asthma...Objectives: This study sought to assess vitamin D, Bone mineral density (BMD), and relationship between BMD and Vitamin D. Study 356 students aged 11-16 years in secondary schools in rural areas of Cantho city. Methods: A cross-sectional study. The results: The stunting prevelence was 19.1 percent, boys, girls were 20 percent
18.23 percent. Bone mireral density of 68 stunting children was compared with of normal and healthy 107 children with similarities in gender and age. There were 17 cases having decreased bone density accounting for 9.71 percent, stunting children had low BMD was 7.35 percent. Vitamin D deficient levels: boys/girls was 38.36 percent and 61.64 percent, but insufficient levels: boys/girls was 51.28 percent, 48.72 percent. Vitamin D deficient levels and insufficient levels in Stunting group were 31.51 percent, 46.15 percent. Conclusion: The total vitamin D was strongly correlated with bone mineral density, the linear regression for reduced bone density prediction in children is BMD (g/cm2)=0.2933921 + 0.0008893 Vitamin D (ng/mL).
