Tóm tắt

A survey of 691 students from four urban and suburban secondary schools in Hanoi and Vinh Phuc province was conducted in order to identify objective factors that influence secondary student's interest in learning English. It was discovered that the students need for English in society is the most important factor, followed by teacher's method of teaching English and the attitude of friends towards learning English. The least important factor was found to be the home environment. The influence of the home environment in learning English was viewed from two aspects: use of English in the home by family members and the teaching of English to children in the home. In general, the home environment was not conducive to the learning of English.
