Nowadays, for pomelo product Vietnam has two products that are Doan Hung and Phuc Trach pomelo which are protected geographical indication in the total of 29 protected geographical indication products. Luan Van grapefruit is a valuable and rare citrus fruit in Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province. This one has the reputation and quality, completely differs from the similar others. Besides being a food product, it also have cultural values (religious and bonsai) for consumers. Luan Van grapefruit has a high economic value and contributes to increase income for producers. Originally, this product was used to present the King, but the production is decreasing now. The building geographical indication for Luan Van grapefruit creat not only economic value but also helps to preserve a rare genetic source. The protected area is 955 ha, including two communes Xuan Bai and Tho Xuong in Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province.
