 Objectives: To describe the clinical features and to evaluate the preliminary treatment results of conjunctival chemical burns. Patients: 70 patients (97 eyes) with conjunctival chemical burns of grade II or worse than that who were treated in the Trauma Department, VNIO. Methods: Clinical prospective study: Patients were evaluated for conjunctival lesions and other associated injuries
  burn severity was graded according to Dua S.H. classification.. Burns were treated according to staging with different means. The conjunctival repithelialization. VA and complications were noted. Results: Severe burns accounted for 51.6 percent (of which 61.9 percent were due to alkaline)
  initial pH did not correspond with the nature of burning agents
  the range of ischemia was more important in alcaline burns than in acids. Treatment result: Complete repithelialization increased from 46.4 percent at discharge to 71.1 percent at 3 months. Raised IOP in 11.3 percent, corneal pannus in 51.9 percent. Conclusion: Chemical burns were usually severe with many associated lesions and bad prognosis.
