The STL file format is known for a long time and is used in Rapid Prototyping (RP) and Reverse Engineering (RE). In machining, STL format is used to tranfer data and simulate machining process in computer aided manufacturing software. Researching on machining from STL files enables to reduce reverse engineering time and to process highly complex surfaces.
