Last names as well as first names of a particular individual can be expressed in a variety of forms. Using last names and first names in different ways in communicative activities depends on both users' subjective points of view and social elements characterizing for each particular nation. If one has good understanding his communicator's culture, the communicative process will be easier and more effective. The article presents several differences of last names and first names uses in linguistic communication of the French and the Vietnamese, aiming at highlighting some cultural characteristics of the two nations.
