The curing of the tung oil modified epoxy resin (ETT 39) by 1,3-phenylene diamine (mPDA) have been studied. The influence of the (mol) epoxy/amine on the convertion of epoxy groups of ETT 39 and amine groups of mPDA as well as some physico-mechanical properties of the thermal cured coatings have been investigated. Among the coatings tested, the coating with the (mol) ratio epoxy/amine = 1/1 showed the high degree of convert ion. of the both epoxy (93 percent) and amine groups (100 percent) after 130 minutes, the best values of hardness (0.45), impact resistance ( 200 kg.cm), cupping resistance (10 mm) and adhesion (0 point) after 180 minutes curing at 150°C. The enthalpy of the curing prosess of the coating determined by DSC an lysis was -26.82 J/g.
