Objective: To assess the clinical effectiveness of Test + 1 in school-age children and determine factors related to the positivity of the Test + 1. Methods: 195 patients aged from 6 to 18 years (mean 11.3 + or - 3.3) seen at the national eye hospital for refractive errors. The examination was performed subjectively and objectively by autorfractor and cycloplegic refraction. The test + 1 was done binocularly with + 1D lens after subjective correction of the refraction. Results: 45.1 percent of eyes are positive to the test +1. The positive rate is 51.7 percent in age group of 6 to 10 years, higher than age group of 11 to 18 years (39.6 percent). The positivity of test +1 was related with the amount of refractive error and was higher in moderate and high refractive errors. Conclusions: Test + 1 is a simple clinical technique that can be quickly performed on refraction examination. The positive rate of the test is high in patients with refractive errors, thus this technique is recommended systemically in routine refraction examination.
