In recent years, disease prevention in Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city has obtained remarkable achievements. Continuously in 6 years (from 2006 to 2011) the number of dengue fever cases in the district was the lowest in the city and decreased year by year. This was because of not only the government interest but also the active involvement of citizens in addressing environmental issues.By studying the data collected in June of 2012 through household interviews on knowledge, attitudes and practices of Vinh Thanh people on dengue fever prevention, the results showed that: 98 percent of the people had a good knowledge of the pathogen and environmental hygiene contents in dengue fever prevention. When children had a fever, 76.4 percent of them were taken to a health facility for examination. 77.7 percent of the people often did home hygiene and 96.6 percent involved in environmental hygiene, and disease prevention activities initiated by the Health Sector and Local Authority.
