Cymbidiumsp. or boat orchids are distributed in some mountainous areas of Vietnam including Sa Pa, Lao Cai province. Study on the presence and damage caused by major diseases in Cymbidium species such as Terrestrial cymbidium 'Thu Vang" , "Hong Hoang" and "Tran Mong Xuan" has been performed with aims to find optimal solutions to control them. There are eight diseases with high prevalence found in those orchid species, of which bacterial soft rot-BSR (Erwinia carotovora) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum crassipes). The bacterial soft rot and anthracnose diseases have occured seriously in a open field with warm and high humidity climatic condition (in june, july for BSR and may, june for anthracnose) with the disease incidence over 45 percent and 40 percent, respectively. Both diseases have less occurence in cold and winter weather season. Controling measures for these disease included cultural practices, using deaseas-free planting material, higene growing substrate and good plant care service toward integrated pest manegement approach. In a necessary case a chemical pesticides can be used for BSR controling nemaly Score 250 EC, Rhidomil 68 WG and for anthracnose controling as Starner 20 WP, Visen 20 SC with the recommended dosage.
