Purposes: i) To study on some risk factors related to breast cancer among Vietnamese women
ii) to determine on mutations frequency of BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene among Vietnamese women with breast cancer
iii) to determine on the association of risk factors with mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene. Subjects: 250 patients without breast cancer and 150 patients with breast cancer. Methods: The authors use single variable and multi variable analysis on risk factors of the cases and the controls so as to compare and evaluate the difference between them. Monoplex and multiplex PCR methods are also used to detennine mutations including 185delAG and 5382insC in BRCA1 gene, 6174delT in BRCA2 gene. Results: The most common age with breast cancer is at 41-50. Early age at menarche ( or 55 years) increase risks with breast cancer. Early age at first pregnancy ( 20 years) decreases risks with breast cancer. The longer breast feeding duration is, the more breast cancer risks decrease. Only 2 percent of patients with breast cancer were detected to have 5382insC in BRCA1. These patients carry 5382insC often show their mutation phenotype in women at around age of menopause. Hence, the age at menopause will be the factor to promote mutation process.
