Scrubby vegetation may have primary and secondary origins. Deforestation has increased the area of scrub in Vietnam for 50 years. Secondary shrub deplete the biodiversity, reduce the land coverage and decrease the productivity and annual growth of plants. The soil which is under the shrub vegetation is very poor nutrition, and the extent depends on the state of vegetation. The trend of the change of shrub vegetation in Vietnam is that if it is protected and stop all impacts, it will recover into young forest. On the other hand, if the shrub vegetation is affected continuously, it will turn into low shrubs with more grass and then gradually expose dry land into semi-desert.
