Amino acids are the primary units of proteins and play an important role in human life. The formation of complex between rare earth ion Sm3+ and L-tyrosine was investigated in solution by ultraviolet and was proved the molar ratio is 1:2. Then the solid complex was prepared by coprecipitation method. The obtained complex are colored by metallic ion crystalline substances respectively soluble in dimethyl sulphoxide, insoluble in water. The structure of complex was determined by thermal decomposition and IR spectral methods. Based on these data, we found that the co-ordinate of L-Tyrosine with rare earth ion Sm3+ was formed by binding with nitrogen atom in group of amino (-NH2) and oxygen atom in group of carboxyl (-COOH).
