This paper presents initial experimental results in interface bonding strength between asphalt concrete layers and shear strength of asphalt materials from a typical high performance flexible pavement project in Vietnam. Core samples were tested using a Leutner equipment with an addition of a temperature controlled bath. Two conditions were applied, including at 30oC and at 40oC in water. Experimental results shown that interface bonding and shear strengths alter within a large variation. Both strengths reduce with the increase of temperature. The bond strength is about 50 to 60 percent in comparison with the shear strength. The results also suggest that the hypothesis of "full bonding" and no displacement between asphalt layers in flexible pavement structure in accordance of current standards should be further paying attentions.
