Objectives: to describe the current situation of behavioral disorders in primary school children in Thai Nguyen city, Vietnam. Methods: The two-stage, cross-sectional study was conducted on a school-sample of 1638 children, aged 6 to 11 of Nguyen Viet Xuan and Hoang Van Thu primary schools from 9/2009 to 1/2010. Results: The prevalence of behavioral disorders was 2.99 percent, in which, ADHD was 2.26 percent
conduct disorder was 0.49 percent and hostility/lying were 0.49 percent.46.94 percent of the behavioral disorders were merely behavioral disorders
The rest was combined behavioral disorders. Depression combined with behavioral disorders was the most common. In addition, some behavioral disorders were combined with anxiety, bed wetting, mental retardation. Many children had more than two disorders. Conclusions: Behavioral disorders in primary school children in Thai Nguyen city, Vietnam were quite common and diverse including behavioral disorder alone or combined.
