Alkyl glycidyl ethers synthesized in a heterogeneous weakly hydrous medium, were condensed with primary amines to obtain 3-alkyloxy propanolamines in a regioselective manner, The compounds were characterized by conventional spectroscopic methods, and nuclear magnetic resonance data are given. The homogeneity of the diesel-ethanol blendswith these additives were firstly investigated. Their stability, their good emulsifying power make these compounds suitable for solubilizing ethanol-diesel fuel blends. The diesel-ethanol mixture with 2 percent additive l-octylamino-3-octyloxy-2-propanol and 5 percent absolute ethanol in volume was phase stability in 60 days at room temperature. This additiveconfers an advantage with help to make diesel-ethanol mixtures attractive as an alternative to diesel fuel.
