In this paper, the author described the synthesis of pelargonic acid vanillylarnide from the condensation between vanillylarnine hydrochloride and nonanoyl chloride under the Schotten-Baumann condition in a biphase system. The resulting compound was used as the active agent (lacrimator) for incapacitating aerosol dispensers used in riot control by law enforcement forces.
