Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of colorectal cancer at the Surgery Department - Bach Mai Hospital. Patients and Method: retrospective, cross sectional study on 500 patients who were diagnosed rectal cancer and treated at the Surgery Department, Bach Mai hospital. Results: 1. General practice: Male accounted for 44.4 percent, female accounted for 55.6 percent, mean age was 56.6 percent 14.32, in which the age group 40-69 accounted for 67.2 percent. Major clinical symptoms: bleeding rectal (81.4 percent), flat stool (35.8 percent), rectal syndrome (54.6 percent), weight loss within 1 -2 months (41.8 percent), disorder of intestinal flow (21.0 percent), lymph nodes in the groin (6.8 percent). 2. Surgical Results: Radical surgery including connecting the intestine (41.8 percent), Hartmann Surgery (26.8 percent), Miles Surgery (11.8 percent), Temporary Surgery: artificial anus (19.6 percent). Treatment outcomes: good in 422 patients (84.4 percent), medium in 25 patients (5 percent), bad in 53 patients (10.6 percent). Conclusion: Colorectal cancer is a common disease. In Vietnam, patients often come to the hospital in late stage, therefore the results of radical treatment is not high.The primary health care should be better to limit the late stage at first visit patients.
