Purpose: to determine the percentage of histopathological types of basal cell carcinoma on the eyelid based on histopathological classification of the World Health Organization - 2006. Patients and methods: a total of 94 basal cell carcinomas involving the eyelids, treated surgically and confirmed pathologically at Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology from January 2005 to June 2011, were reviewed. Results: basal cell carcinoma of the eyelid occured most frequently in the old people with the peak incidence at seventh decade (34 percent). Majority of the cases involved the lower eyelid (59.5 percent). Histopathologically, the most common types were nodular (69.2 percent), infiltrative (14.9 percent), and basosquamous basal cell carcinoma (5.3 percent). The other types and other variants were less common, accounted for from 1.1 percent to 2.1 percent. Conclusions: in basal cell carcinoma of the eyelid, the most common type was nodular (69.2 percent), followed by infiltrative type (14.9 percent) and basosquamous type (5.3 percent)
the other types and other variants were less common, accounted for from 1.1 percent to 2.1 percent.
