Tóm tắt

The aim of this paper is to explore differences and similarities in the speaker who expresses attitudes towards conversations in famous stories in English and Vietnamese, in terms of providing deontic force for the information presented commitment to the truth of that information, as well as expressing speakers' belief systems. The paper addresses the following issues: (i) The identification of the most common lexical markers for the expression of Deontic Modality reflected evidentially in the corpora in English and Vietnamese. (ii) The similarities and differences in the presence and patterning of these categories in the two languages.
