Cereals, legumes and oilseed crops are grown in over 90 percent fthe world's harvested area. These crops serve as a major source of nutrients for humans and animals. An important constituent in these crops is phytic acid (myo-inositol hexaphosphate). The salt form, phytate, is the major storage form phosphorus and accounts for more than 80 percent of the total phosphorus in cereals and legumes. Phytases are enzymes capable of hydrolyzing phytic acid to less-phosphorylated myo-inositol derivates and monogastric animal, such as pig, poultry and fish, are not able to metabolize phytic acid and therefore inorganic phosphate is added to their diets to satify the phosphorus requirement. This consequently contributes to phosphorus pollution problems in areas of intensive livestock production. In order to improve phosphorus utilization from phytate and phytin salts in grains and legume seeds for crop fertilizer and animal feed, especially for monogastric animals, a study was conducted to identify phytase gene trom Pseudomonas stutzeri and to apply phytate-degrading Pseudomonas stutzeri strains in improvement of quality compost and poultry feeding. The results showed that thirty-eight of one-hundred and forty-seven Pseudomonas stutzeri strains having a "halo" on the phytate-medium and nine of thirty-eight Pseudomonas stutzeri strains were determined positive in phytase gene PCR. The phytase gene trom five selected strains were sequenced and compared with bacterial phytase gene available Genbank by BLAST N software and revealed 99 percent identifies with Pseudomonas stutzeri A1501. The phylogenetic tree of five sequenced strains (2a, LN2a, N7a, 8s, 16s) with reference Pseudomonas stuzeri A1501 strain showed that five strains have a relationship closely. All of nine strains (2a, LN2a, N7a, 8s, 16s, B9C1, N1c, 13f2, B5a) had good phosphate-solubling ability in both of compost and poultry feed. The Pseudomonas stutzeri BT2a strain was a best one and will be used as supplementary for high quality compost production and animal feeds.
