American slavery appeared in the 17th century when slaves first arrived in Virginia in 1619. After the American Revolution (1775-1783), the people who lived in the North opposed slavery more than the people in the South. Disputes of slavery between the north and the south was main cause leading to the Civil War (1861-1865). Naturally, it was the conflict between North industrial-commercial bourgeoisie and South slaveholders. The victory of Union militery was evident and that result opened an era for the development of American capitalism and abolished the backward slavery.
