The study was conduc.ted on 45 white mice, male, healthy, aged 8-10 weeks, and weighted 20-25 g. The purpose of the study was to assess the effects of Tieu dao tan Dich dam thang remedy on learning and memory in animals injected with ketamine. Animals were divided into three groups. A control group of 15 animals, injected with saline (NaCl 0.9 percent) dosed 10 ml/kg /day for 14 consecutive days. A ketamine group of 15 animals injected with ketamine dosed 20 mg/kg/day for 14 consecutive days. An orally used traditional medicine group of 15 animals, they were injected with ketamine dosed 20 mglkg/day for 14 consecutive days, then orally used Tieu dao tan - Dich dam thang solution dosed 0.2 ml/10g/day for 30 days continue. The results showed that traveled distance and swimming time in a water maze to find the platform as well as time to find food in a food maze decreased over time in all groups. However, those in the control group were declining faster, while those in ketamine injected group were unstable and decreased slowly. The orally used traditional medicine group after 30 days taking, spatial learning ability has not improved much, but the time to find food in the food maze was significantly improved compared with that of the ketamine injected group, suggesting that the traditional medicine used was effective.
