Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), which are widely distributed in all living organisms, are important components of the innate immune system and function as a first line of defense against invading icroorganisms. Antimicrobial peptides provide a good alternative treatment for the control of infectious bacterial disease. [n this study. we cloned and sequenced full length cDNA encoding crustin like antimicrobial peptide from WSSS infected black tiger shrimp. The ORF of crustin like antimicrobial peptide gene was 426 bp in length. and was predicted to encode a 141 amino acid. Alignment of the newly determined sequence and that of the GenBank (EF654659) showed that do not alter the nucleotides. However. we found that 5 nucleotides are different with F J539178 accession number: 91 G - C
  291 T - A: 311 G - A
  338 C - A and 342 C - A. The nucleotide differences were found to result in 5 amino acid substitutions: 35 V - L: 108 D - E
112V - I: 124 T - N: 125 D - E. Points of note. this crustin like antimicrobial peptide encoded gene without a nucleotide sequence fragment from 128-145 (TTCCTGGAGTTGGAG). The sequence was submitted to GenBank with accession number HQ662560. The isolated cDNA is a good starting material for further elucidating the function of crustin like antimicrobial peptide.
