Though a noticeable increase in the utilization of maternal and child health care during pregnancy and childbearing over the last decades has been recognized, women living in mountainous areas are still facing obstacles to seeking medical care in need. We conducted this research with the aim of gaining some insights into antenatal and postnatal access and expenditure in Quy Hop, Nghe An. The research results showed that most of the ethnic women were likely to settle down in community health centres while Kinh women tended to count on big hospitals for their pregnancy and childbirth. Only a small minority of female ethnics had home or on the way childbirth due to knowledge deficit, geographical distance. Some ethnic women were still ill-eclucated regarding maternal and child care.
