Over the past three decades, the teaching and study of Lu Xun's works in middle school in China has differed in response to the political environment of the time. In the not-so-distant past, an official opinion and analysis was taught and dull and boring "correct" answers were required of students. At this time, there exists an atmosphere which allows everyone to express his/her ideas as long as the perpetuity of the existing government is assumed. Lu Xun and his works have long been interpreted from many different perspectives but now young people are feeling more free to speak their minds. It has always been said that the current articles and academic works that have presented views of Lu Xun's works served as a cultural bridge that connected students and teachers to Lu Xun's works. These published works have represented acceptable interpretations of Lu Xun's works. At this time, a greater freedom of expression of thought is allowable in print. The research should review the evolution of this process to clear the air for an open-minded interpretation and teaching of Lu Xun's works in the future.
