Objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients admitted to Endocrinology Department in Bach Mai hospital and the relationship between diabetic nephropathy and clinical manifestations. The results showed that the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients in Endocrinology Department was 63.95 percent (94/147)
the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy increased with age and the duration of type 2 diabetes. The prevalence of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension was 70.7 - 95.8 percent, significantly higher than that of normotensive group (51.2 percent), the difference was statistically significant with p-value 0.001. Diabetic nephropathy was likely to develop in patients with lesser degrees of glycemic control with prevalence of 72.7 percent in compare to 11.8 percent in those with better glycemic control, the difference was statistically significant (with p-value 0.001).
