A cross-sectional study was carried out at the end of 2010 to assess the nutritional status in children 11-14 years old in 6 secondary schools of 2 living central and sub-urban districts, Ha
noi city. Body weight, height of 3013 children were collected and compared to each other and to other studies. Results show that: Average body weight and height of both male and female children in central districts is significantly heavier and taller than those of suburban district from 3.7-7.6 kg for male and 2.2-5.4kg for females children and from 2.4-3.5cm cm for males and 1.3 - 2.0 cm for female children respectively. Prevalence of stunting in all age children in sub-urban district is significantly higher than those of central districts (from 2.8-8.5 percent for male and 2.9-4.8 percent for female children). Prevalence of overweight-obesity in male children of central district is significantly higher compared to those of sub-urban district, nevertheless this prevalence is low in female of both districts. Height velocity in male children of central district is starting in ealier age compared to those of sub-urban district (11-12 age in central district and 12-13 age in sub-urban district) while in female children of both central and sub-urban district is in 11-12 age.
