Bisulfate based Ionic liquids (IL), viz. n-butyl methylimidazolium hydrosulfate ([BMIM][HSO4]) and n-butyl pyridinium hydrosulfate ([BPy][HSO4]) were synthesized and used as solvents for extraction of sulfur compounds in diesel oil. It was showed that sulfur extraction yield of n-butyl methyl imidazolium hydrosulfate is slightly higher than that of n-butyl pyridinium hydrosulfate. The sulfur extraction yields of98.5 percent and 96 percent were observed after 6 repeatedly extraction processes when using those two ionic liquids (30°C, volume ratio of ionic liquid to oil is 1:1). Extraction process was performed at low temperature and under atmosphere pressure, no hydrogen pressure is need. After regenerating by extraction with suitable solvents, ionic liquids were reused with a minor reduce in desulfurization extraction ability.
