Background: Acne is a common disease in teenagers and young adults. This study was conducted to provide physicians with a better understanding of the disease and to improve their treatment and advice to patients. Objective: To define the prevalence, the clinical features of acne, and it's related factors on the students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Method: A cross sectional descriptive study including 428 studentls from 1st to 6th grades was carried out by means of medical examination, and interviews based on questionnaires. Results: The prevalence of acne in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy students is 90.2 percent overall. Separately, the incidence was slightly higher for boys with 91.3 percent than girls with 88.8 percent. Most of these students had moderate acne (53.9 percent), with 38.6 percent having mild acne. Only 7.5 percent had the disease at severe. The essential lesions included oily skin, comedone, pustules and papules, accompanied with scar and/or pigmentation. Two risk factors associated with acne of girls were identified as the habit of using cosmetics (OR=3.68), and menstrual cycle (OR=4.908). The research also identified the differences between boys and girls in their habits related to acne. These included: using facial milk (p=0.00), and using cosmetics (p=0.00). Conclusion: The prevalence of acne in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy students is 90.2 percent overall. The clinical feature of acne in students from age 18 to age 23 is not differ from high school students.Two risk factors associated with acne were identified as the habit of using cosmetics and menses in girls No recognized association between Demodex and acne disease due to low sample size.
