The virus caused PRRC disease in pigs that belonging to the Nidovirales species, the Arteriviridae family and Arterivirus strain. The original species represented for genotype I is the Lelystad virus finding in Europe. The original strain represented for genotype II is VR2332 virus in North America. A variant of genotype II strains have high virulent to cause more severe disease detected in Asia in 2006 (in southern China and northern Viet Nam) has caused much attention and challenges for veterinary science across world.
