Metabolites of nitrofurans residues (AOZ, AMOZ, AHD, SEM) in fresh meat were obtained from blended tissue samples using incubation under acid hydrolysis conditions and simultaneously derivatized using 2-nitrobendazaldehyte. The extract is neutralized, the derivatized metabolites were isolated using liquid-solid extraction with ethyl acetate following by screening and confirmation using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LCMSMS). The method was validated according to the decision 657/2002/EC of European Union criteria for the analyses of veterinary drug residues in food. With all metabolites of nitrofurans residues in fresh meat the recoveries were at 75.2 percent - 91.8 percent
the intermediate precision is less than 21.0 percent, decision limits (CCalpha) is between in the range of 0.20 - 0.30 ug kg-1
the detection capability (CCbeta) is in the range of 0.40-0.50 ug kg-1. The method for determination of metabolites of nitrofurans residues in fresh meat by using LCMSMS was successfully developed, validated, applied. The method is 'fit for purpose' for screening and confirmation of metabolites of nitrofurans residues in fresh meat at Minimum Required Performance Limit (MRPL, 1.0 ug/kg).
