The objective of this study is to validate the ion chromatography method for the detennination of Na, K, Mg and Ca in food. Food items were selected from the list that have no data in the Food Composition Table. The food samples were ashed and then diluted by chlorflydric acid prior to the quantification of minerals using cation exchange chromatography. The validation parameters included repeatability, and recoveries were satisfactory according to AOAC standard. The analytical results from 99 samples belong to 33 food items will be used for updating the Food composition table, and supporting the nutrion research.
