This paper presents the development of a hot water supply system for household usage utilizing solar collector and hot water heat pump in combination. The developed system was designed to serve 5 people, living in area of Hanoi, Vietnam. The system diagram and working principle as well as the methodology and results of the calculations presented in this paper show that the developed system can work well with a hot water heat pump of which the heating capacity is only 10 percent to 12 percent of the maximum heating capacity which is often applied to the system of the same hot water storage volume. This result promises a good scenario of spreading this type of hot water supply system in future.
