Civil engineering projects often show complexities in geometric configuration. As current workflow, however, because of the uncoordinated data management from designing phase to construction phase, it is hard to figure out the problems revealed during construction as well as corresponding problem resolving methods and stakeholders' communication. This paper introduces a general approach to develop a 4D model for civil engineering projects and several encountered aspects of 4D CAD software.
