Study of speech synthesis in Vietnamese can benefit results from other languages such as English, French, and particularly Chinese. However, each language presents own acoustic and linguistic characteristics
the only adaptation of techniques which were already developed, implemented from other languages to a target language is not sufficient to ensure the quality of synthetic speech signal. The work presented in this paper is a part of our work in building a highquality text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis system for Vietnamese. In order to realize this work, we implemented researches in Vietnamese phonetic, tonology and intonation which aim at studying the particular and common characteristics of the Vietnamese language in comparison to other languages. The obtained results allow us to propose a new intonation model forthe development of a high quality Vietnamese speech synthesis system.
