Objectives: Testing of some biological effects of extractum Phong Dan which treats rheumatism. Subjects: Extractum Phong Dan testing on mice of swiss and white rats. Methods: Testing acute toxicity with method of Litchfield-Wilcoxon in mice
Testing analgesic effects with the model of Kostler which cause cramps
Assessing anti-inflammatory effects with paw edema model in the rats by carrageenin
Assessing chronic anti-inflammatory effects with chronic inflammation models which is caused by amian. Results: Extractum didn't have acute toxicity with the highest dose which can be taken was 20 g/kg body weight of mice. Doses of 0.7 g/kg body weight of mice and 2.1 g/kg body weight of mice demonstrated analgesic effect (p 0.05). With doses of 0.5 g/kg body weight of rats and 1.5 g/kg body weight of rats, extratum inhibited paw edema in rats (p0.05). A dose of 0.5 g/kg body weight of rats had chronic anti-inflammatory effect, inhibition rate of granuloma formation is 28.98 percent when the wet weight and 28.82 percent when dry weight, respectively (p0.05). Conclusion: Extractum didn't shown acute toxicity and had analgesic effects and inflammatory effects.
