Objectives: To study the associations between plasma uric acid and cardiovascular risk factors in postmenopausal women. Patients: 117 postmenopausal women 40 year-old examined in the department from 3/2012-9/2013 were included. Methods: A cross-sectional study. Postmenopausal women were undergone clinical examination, and blood tests. Results: Mean plasma uric acid level was 249.7 +/- 48.3 umol/l
prevalence of high uric acid ( or = 360 umol/l) was 17.9 percent. Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors were: total obese (30.7 percent), abdominal obese (36.7 percent)
hypertension (31.6 percent)
hyperglycemia (14.5 percent), high total cholesterol (40.2 percent)
high LDL-C (37.6 percent)
high triglycerides (35.0 percent) and low HDL-C (30.8 percent). Plasma uric acid level was correlated from highest to lowest were with age (r = 0.69
P 0.001), abdominal circumference (r or = 360 umol/l) was rather high (17.9 percent) in postmenopausal women. Plasma uric acid level was significantly correlated to cardiovascular risk factors, therefore, there is a need for efficacy preventing and treating high uric acid levels in order to reduce cardiovascular risk factors in this population.
