Research on the process of urban development using remote sensing and GIS technologies has been widely used and recently, many models to forecast urban development has been made to trace the process of urban sprawl. To clarify this, a regression model in a GIS environment was used. The dependent variable, urban land, was a function of two independent variables that were selected for the study (the distance from the center and the distance to the transportation belt). In addition, impervious surface information was extracted from remote sensing data to function as objective information. The objective of this study was to establish a regression model to detect Hanoi urban density using GIS, and give an initial understanding of its relationship to impervious surfaces in Hanoi.
