Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of iris recognition in astigmatism correction in LASIK surgery. Subject and method: A clinical prospective randomized studies comparing between two eyes of 53 patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism in Ho Chi Minh city Eye Hospital. The sample was divided into two groups with and without application of iris recognition during laser ablation. Safety, effectiveness, predictability, stability were evaluated. Result: There was no statistically significant differences between two groups in safety (p=0.620), efficiency (p=0.840), predictability (p=0.865), stability (p=0.863), spherical equivalent (p=0.910), surgery-induced astigmatism (p=0.796), residual astigmatism (p=0.947), angle of error (p=0.364) at 3 months after surgery. Conclusion: Iris recognition delivered equal effectiveness in astigmatism correction, compared to conventional LASIK.
